This is an album almost 2 years in the making. Created before his rock project Faculty (facultyandstaff.bandcamp.com), Enduring Themes balances experimental genre-bending with an aim to entertain from front to back. And while the 9-minute centerpiece may be a test of endurance for some, this 13 track LP feels pretty good going down.

As typified by the old-school sampling of "Dance with the Devil" and the aforementioned "Front Yard," the schizophrenic synths and noise-bursts of "Color Printer," "Kids Know Best" and the closing three-song-suite, as well as the laid back grooves on "Inoffensive at Best" and "We Rotate on Axes," Sapporo is more accessible than ever. Elsewhere, like "Rainforest Romp" and "Blow Over the Sordid Love Apparatus," Sapporo seeks to evoke a sense of physical location and envelop the listener in a uniquely damp atmosphere.

But the achievement here lies not in individual tracks but in the cohesion and wholeness of the project that nevertheless goes in every direction that the artist cares to investigate. Enduring Themes is the definitive Sapporo.
